Personality:

Although Puss in Boots is slightly older than the current story reincarnations in general, she has spent so much time adventuring around the kingdoms on her own that she is not familiar at all with the new ones. Because of her thirst for adventure, she comes and goes as she pleases and has a tendency of not forming very close relationships.
Despite her somewhat introvert nature, she is good with words, and just like her previous incarnations, she, too, is known for her cunning nature. The feline is good at tricking people and does so in order to get what she wants. She is also known for using her looks to soften people up.
Puss in Boots’s current self is known as quite a charmer, and she flirts with people rather openly, no matter the gender (although she seems to prefer women over men despite this). She doesn’t always understand when others are uncomfortable with her and overall she is, very much like cats in general, kind of pushy at times. She also loves attention when she wants it, but can get extremely irritated for attention she does not want. Sometimes it’s hard to tell when she is in the mood for getting pampered, and when is better the leave her alone. Luckily her tail’s movements give something out.
Although it’s definitely not wise to believe everything she says, Puss in Boots is still known for sticking up to her friends. She also does not back down from her promises she has made with clearly serious intention.
Much like cats, she sleeps a lot and her peak of activity is during twilight hours of dawn and dusk. However, because she is more human than her previous selves, she can still be seen at around any time of day depending a little.

Story:

The tale opens with the third and youngest son of a miller receiving his inheritance—a cat. At first, the youngest son laments, as the eldest brother gains the mill, and the middle brother gets the mules. The feline is no ordinary cat, however, but one who requests and receives a pair of boots. Determined to make his master's fortune, the cat bags a rabbit in the forest and presents it to the king as a gift from his master, the fictional Marquis of Carabas. The cat continues making gifts of game to the king for several months.
One day, the king decided that he wanted his daughter to marry the cat's master. The cat persuades his master to remove his clothes and enter the river. The cat disposes of his master's clothing beneath a rock. As the royal coach nears, the cat begins calling for help in great distress. When the king stops to investigate, the cat tells him that his master the Marquis has been bathing in the river and robbed of his clothing. The king has the young man brought from the river, dressed in a splendid suit of clothes, and seated in the coach with his daughter, who falls in love with him at once.
The cat hurries ahead of the coach, ordering the country folk along the road to tell the king that the land belongs to the "Marquis of Carabas", saying that if they do not he will cut them into mincemeat. The cat then happens upon a castle inhabited by an ogre who is capable of transforming himself into a number of creatures. The ogre displays his ability by changing into a lion, frightening the cat, who then tricks the ogre into changing into a mouse. The cat then pounces upon the mouse and devours it. The king arrives at the castle that formerly belonged to the ogre, and, impressed with the bogus Marquis and his estate, gives the lad the princess in marriage. Thereafter, the cat enjoys life as a great lord who runs after mice only for his own amusement.
Puss in Boot’s story has been influenced greatly by the Shrek version, where the feline is one of the major characters. Known as a rogue-ish ladies man, these features have influenced this version greatly.
Her gender comes from a combination of the cat being dubbed as female in many older animations, one of the stories involving the cat being a fairy, and Pashet from Ozmafia, an otome game. Genderbending in popular culture has naturally been part of the birth of this current creation.
